Generational Curses…and Christians

RE-POST from: December 7, 2017, 3:22 PM

The teaching of “Generational Curses” has been taught mainly by those who have taken on the role of ministers of “deliverance”.  This teaching, as most, have been taken “out of context” as one verse, instead of the complete.  We as believers now live under a new covenant “grace”. Under the old covenant, “the law” we find where God spoke to the nation of Israel as a whole on some issues.  Let us just read what the Lord God says about it….

Exodus 20:3-6-Thou shalt have no other gods before me.Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.Thou shalt not bow down thyself to themnor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;  And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

Here we read that GOD spoke all these words and reminded them to have no other gods or idols, to not worship or serve them….for THIS disobedience, he would visit the iniquity on the 3rd & 4th generation.  HOWEVER, GOD would show mercy to those that “LOVE HIM” and “KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS”.    SO…UNLESS you are worshipping and serving other gods, you are NOT UNDER A CURSE.  It’s pretty clear here.

God never left the Israelites (a nation) without hope or mercy…HE is LOVE and MERCY…which always overshadows judgment.  It seems that God dealt with the nation of Israel as a whole entire nation…(i.e.: Joshua 7:1, 11-15).

But we also read about his hope and forgiveness that was made available to them in the following verses if they choose to confess:

Leviticus 26:39-42 – 39  And they that are left of you shall pine away in their iniquity in your enemies’ lands; and also in the iniquities of their fathers shall they pine away with them.40 If they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, with their trespass which they trespassed against me, and that also they have walked contrary unto me;41 And that I also have walked contrary unto them, and have brought them into the land of their enemies; if then their uncircumcised hearts be humbled, and they then accept of the punishment of their iniquity:42 Then will I remember my covenant with Jacob, and also my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham will I remember; and I will remember the land.

Numbers 14:19-21 – 19 Pardon, I beseech thee, the iniquity of this people according unto the greatness of thy mercy, and as thou hast forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.20 And the Lord said, I have pardoned according to thy word:21 But as truly as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the Lord.

There are some that teach that a generational curse is only handed down to non-Christian family members; once a person accepts Christ, he is FREE, they just have to learn to now walk in that FREEDOM of all things being made new.  They also teach that a child can be inhabited by the “family demon”, which can remain dormant until awakened by sin.  The cure is to repent of sin and remove the demon.

Let us dig further into the BIBLE:

Jeremiah 31:29-34 – 29 In those days they shall say no more, The fathers have eaten a sour grape, and the children’s teeth are set on edge.30 But every one shall die for his own iniquity: every man that eateth the sour grape, his teeth shall be set on edge.31 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the Lord:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the Lord: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

Here we see where the children are not punished for their father’s evil and natural character…that each one will die for his own sin.  We also have an introduction to the NEW Covenant where the “law” will be written in our hearts, and we will know God and HE will forgive our iniquity and remember our sin NO MORE!!

And the latest and greatest explanation to me is the follow scriptures:….

Ezekiel 18:1 The word of the Lord came unto me again, saying,What mean ye, that ye use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying, The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge?As I live, saith the Lord God, ye shall not have occasion any more to use this proverb in Israel.Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.But if a man be just, and do that which is lawful and right,And hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, neither hath defiled his neighbour’s wife, neither hath come near to a menstruous woman,And hath not oppressed any, but hath restored to the debtor his pledge, hath spoiled none by violence, hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment; He that hath not given forth upon usury, neither hath taken any increase, that hath withdrawn his hand from iniquity, hath executed true judgment between man and man,Hath walked in my statutes, and hath kept my judgments, to deal truly; he is just, he shall surely live, saith the Lord God.10 If he beget a son that is a robber, a shedder of blood, and that doeth the like to any one of these things,11 And that doeth not any of those duties, but even hath eaten upon the mountains, and defiled his neighbour’s wife,12 Hath oppressed the poor and needy, hath spoiled by violence, hath not restored the pledge, and hath lifted up his eyes to the idols, hath committed abomination,13 Hath given forth upon usury, and hath taken increase: shall he then live? he shall not live: he hath done all these abominations; he shall surely die; his blood shall be upon him.14 Now, lo, if he beget a son, that seeth all his father’s sins which he hath done, and considereth, and doeth not such like,15 That hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, hath not defiled his neighbour’s wife,16 Neither hath oppressed any, hath not withholden the pledge, neither hath spoiled by violence, but hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment,17 That hath taken off his hand from the poor, that hath not received usury nor increase, hath executed my judgments, hath walked in my statutes; he shall not die for the iniquity of his father, he shall surely live.18 As for his father, because he cruelly oppressed, spoiled his brother by violence, and did that which is not good among his people, lo, even he shall die in his iniquity.19 Yet say ye, Why? doth not the son bear the iniquity of the father? When the son hath done that which is lawful and right, and hath kept all my statutes, and hath done them, he shall surely live.20 The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.21 But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.22 All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live.23 Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord God: and not that he should return from his ways, and live?24 But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.25 Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal. Hear now, O house of Israel; Is not my way equal? are not your ways unequal?26 When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die.27 Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive.28 Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die.29 Yet saith the house of Israel, The way of the Lord is not equal. O house of Israel, are not my ways equal? are not your ways unequal?30 Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, saith the Lord God. Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin.31 Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel?32 For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord God: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye.

SOOOOOO…………we clearly see here that we are all responsible for our OWN spiritual walk…the SON does not inherit death because of what his father has done.

Can we please understand that we are NOW in a NEW covenant…where ALL things are made new…and where the BLOOD OF JESUS is enough to REDEEM us back to LIFE in CHRIST…back to SONSHIP with our heavenly Father!

More on living a LIFE IN CHRIST…FULL OF GRACE and MERCY.

God took away the old covenant and established the new …

Hebrews 10:9-10 Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

IT IS FINISHED….Let us labor to “REST” in the finished work of JESUS CHRIST!!  HE IS ENOUGH!!
